Whole Foods in Oakland CA

Everyone has their favorite grocery store and mine is Whole Foods.

Whole Foods Market is the world's largest retailer of natural and organic foods, with stores throughout North America and the United Kingdom and each store is unique. The Oakland location used to be a Buick/Cadillac car dealership but it sat dormant for many years. We are very fortunate as a community that Whole Foods took an eye sore and made it into eye candy.

It’s located a block away from Lake Merritt which means, a nice three mile walk around the lake with a friend and lunch at Whole Foods makes for a nice, relaxing and healthy afternoon.

In addition to organic vegetables and fruit, I love buying grains in bulk and not paying for all the unnecessary packaging.

For when you are on the go, they have a salad bar, make soups daily, offer a sushi bar while your sushi plate is made while you shop, pizza by the slice, hot food ranging from Mac and Cheese to Indian in the Hot Food Section…the options just go on and on.

In an era where so many people are dying of heart attacks and cancer, it's more important than ever to get back to the basics and eat healthy and nourish your body and your soul. Not to mention, you can vote with your wallet.

If more people buy organic foods, we will see supply and demand at it's best and eventually the prices will come down on foods that are not sprayed with pesticides, and seeds that haven't been altered.

Wine is on sale in Oakland CA, get your bubbly before 2011!

Everywhere I go these days, I seem to run into a wine sale. Last night while I was at Whole Foods in Downtown Oakland, they had signage everywhere about their discount on wine by the case.

Another great place to buy wine without making a trip to Napa is at Farmstead. They have two locations, one in Oakland and one in Alameda. Here’s what they had to say:

"This week, it's all about Champagne, Sparkly Wine and Creamy Cheeses! And we've got them in great supply for your year end-festivities. We're open until 8 p.m. in Montclair on New Year's Eve, and until at least 6:30 p.m. in Alameda.

And although, we'd love it if you planned ahead for your holiday festivities, we've made an accommodation for all of you procrastinators out there: all sparkling wines are 10% off on December 31, from 5:00 p.m. until closing! (that's 12.5% per mixed or solid 12 bottle case, with wine club members enjoying 12.5% on bottle one and 15% per mixed or solid 12 bottle case!)

That's right, from Montelliana Prosecco to Krug, all bubbly wine in stock is on sale - 5:00 p.m. until close! First come, first serve, no phone reservations. Just come in and pick up!"
